Overnight Beauty Treatments

Hello Beauties! I am excited to share some of my favorite products that I use to get rid of skin concerns over night! I have found it very hard to find skincare products that actually work and that work fast. I know we all have different skincare concerns that we  are all facing. Below are some products that I have found work and work fast. Please let me know if there are products you use that compact your skin concerns.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion– Whenever I notice a pimple starting to develop on my face, I grab this drying lotion. You use the drying lotion with your nightly skincare routine and apply it to the designated area. In the morning your pimple should disappear or become smaller. Each pimple you have is different depending on the size and the consistency of the pimple. This is not an everyday product, just use when needed. I have found nothing but great results.

The drying lotion has a special purpose. The drying lotion is formulated for problem areas on the skin. The way the product works is that it essentially dries out the blemish and balances oil in the skin. This is a very unique product. The formula is very strong and is only suppose to be used on blemishes, not the entire skin.To use, you get a q-tip, stick it all the way down and apply on the troubled areas. You do not shake this product!! The pink substances is suppose to stay at the bottom and the liquid is throughout. The smell of this product is strong. You essentially apply this product at night, wake up in the morning and the blemish should have disappeared or reduced. At times I feel this really works, while other times I wake up and the blemish is still the same. Overall, this is a really great product that has great and fast benefits.

Garnier Blackhead Eliminating Scrub– My main skin problem that I am currently facing is dark spots and blackheads. To deal with this concern, I use the Garnier Blackhead Eliminating scrub in my nightly routine. The scrub helps to bring the blackheads to the front so they are easier to get rid of. In the morning I’ll see a couple of blackheads that I didn’t see before or the blackheads that I did see are ready to be gone.

My favorite thing about the scrub is that it is designed for oily skin while also meeting concerns for blackheads. The scrub is black with little white beads. The only con I have about this scrub is those little white beads. I love the mask so much. However, when I go and remove the mask off, the little white beads are still left on my face and they are very hard to remove. This is a “SCRUB” so I guess it is expected to have them. This mask works wonders and I truly feel it working. It also leaves the face very smooth and soft afterwards. I use this mask regularly and have noticed that I don’t even get blackheads that often anymore. The brand also has a pore eliminating scrub similar to this one that I hope to try out soon.

Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask– Neutrogena products truly helped to clear my skin and I cannot live without their products. I love how gentle they are on my skin and how the actually help instead of harm my skin. The Neutrogena Cleanser/Mask is my all time favorite mask. The next morning after I apply it, I can instantly tell a difference. This product can be used either as a cleanser or a mask. I use it as a mask. The directions say not to exceed 2 times within a week. That is why I only use it twice. I wash my face with hot water then apply the mask all over my face until every spot is covered, so my face is completely white. I let the product sit on for 10  minutes then wash it off with warm water.

Water– I know we have all heard about drinking water to help improve your skin. Overall water is essential for anything! However, I have truly found that with my skin, if I am not drinking plenty of water, my skin tends to break out. Then when I drink water, I can instantly notice a difference. Everyone’s skin is different. I truly believe water helps with anything! If you are drinking water and notice there is not a difference in your skin then consider that you are not drinking enough or the water you are drinking does not have the right pH for your body type.

Skincare Products Haul

Hello Beauties! I am so excited for today’s post. I recently bought some new products that I am excited to share with you all. Whenever I buy new products, I always do research on them to make sure it is the right product for me. I also do research so I do not waste my money and time going back to the store and returning the item. I have been using these products for a little over a month now and have already noticed a difference within my skin and I can tell the longer I continue to use the products, the better my skin will be. Keep reading to see some new beauty products I am trying!

Witch Hazel– This is currently my second bottle of Witch Hazel. I am a huge fan of witch hazel and this product has become a holy grail for me. I was super hesitant about using witch hazel directly on my face since the product contains very strong chemicals. After doing my research and looking up reviews, I decided to give it a try. To my surprise the toner was very gentle on my skin. I did not break out once nor did not feel any burning sensation. I use witch hazel as an overall face toner. I use morning and nigh after I have applied my cleanser. To use, I take a cotton round and squirt some of the product onto the cotton round and wipe all over my face. I do not think I will ever stop using this product. I would recommend to anyone, just make sure to test out a small piece of your skin first since witch hazel has very strong chemicals.

Screen Shot 2018-07-30 at 10.10.50 AM.pngLemon Aura Cacia Essential Oil– After doing some research I wanted to try a lemon oil on my face. While I was picking up these products, I was in a bit of a rush. Without thinking I picked up an Lemon Essential Oil. I am disappointed because this was a product I was really hoping to try out. However, I will use the essential oil with my diffuser. I have not used this product so I can’t give an honest review.

Vitamin C with Rosehip Pill– I have been wanting to try an everyday vitamin pill for the longest. From researching which vitamin (A,B,C,D,E), I found vitamin C to be best for me. Vitamin c provides benefits for your immune system, healing, and hydrating your skin. While doing research for products that are good for your skin, I came across Rosehip Seed/Oil. Rosehip is great for evening out skin tone, brightening skin, fading scars, and much more. Lucky I was able to find a product that had these two ingredients. The pill itself is a dietary supplement however, that is not the reason I am taking it. I having been taking these pills for a little less than a month and I can feel and see a difference. Before I fully give my opinion, I want to try the pills out for maybe two more months. My only con I have is the size of the pill. The pill is similar to the size of a dime.

Derma E Even Tone Brightening Night Cream– I have a current skincare routine that I have been constantly using for a couple of months now. I think the current skincare routine I have is working very well. I was a little hesitant to introduce a new product. However, after a lot of research and talking to a consultant at the store, I decided to go ahead and try this night cream out. The cream comes in two different bottles (a morning cream and a night cream). I decided to try out the night cream. The cream is designed to be “a skin-brightening and antioxidant nighttime formula to help reduce the look of discoloration and age damage.” I was super excited to try this product out because it is 100% vegan, cruelty free, gmo free, and gluten free. This product seems very natural and is what stuck out to me and made me want to try. I have never spent this much on a skincare product before. I use drugstore skincare products, however, I splurged a little and spent $30 on the moisturizer. Thus far, the product seems to be working very well. I have noticed a huge difference in my dark spots. Although, my dark spots are not completely gone, they have lighten up. I believe if I continue to use the moisturizer for a couple of more months, I will see a better difference in the fading of my dark spots.

As you can tell in the original picture, I picked up Spring Valley Hair, Skin, & Nails pills. I noticed these were not the pills I wanted to take so I return and picked up the Spring Valley Biotin pills. I have been taking these pills consecutively since February. I will say I noticed a big difference! I have so much to say about these Biotin Pills therefore, I will be dedicating an entire post! Be on the lookout 🙂

Skincare/Makeup Q&A

What facial cleanser & moisturizer do you currently use?

My current cleanser is the Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser and my current moisturizer is the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizing Lotion. These are both very gentle products to use on the skin and are good for everyday use.

How do you treat pimples & spots?

Whatever you do, do not pop! I have found that popping your pimples actually can cause more harm and the result is a new dark spot. I really do not use anything to treat my pimples because I believe they will take their natural course and get rid of themselves. However, at times I will use the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. The way the product works is that it essentially dries out the blemish and balances oil in the skin. The formula is very strong and is only suppose to be used on blemishes, not the entire skin.

What is your current full skincare routine?

I recently updated my skincare routine and dedicated an entire post. Check it out here.

How often do you wash your face?

I wash my face in the morning and at night. My morning routine has similar products to my night routine. Only thing different is that at night I try to do a mask or I use black soap. In my morning routine I only use sunscreen, I do not use it sunscreen at night.

How do you treat dark spots?

I will soon be dedicating an entire post about this topic. However I am currently using Burt’s Bees Acne Solutions Target Spot Treatment. I have used this product so many times and have actually repurchased 5 times. Let me start off by saying this product works well if you have dark spots and you want to get rid of them. However, depending on the condition of the dark spot, this product can work right away or take some time to actually get rid of the spot. But it does work!

Which products do you use to prep your skin before makeup?

I always complete my skincare routine prior to doing my makeup. By doing this, I am cleansing my skin and moisturizing it to be ready for makeup. You should never apply makeup to a dirty face. Over washing your face is not good to do because you are stripping away the natural chemicals your face produces. However, under washing your face is also not good because you do need to get rid of bacteria, dirt, and oil. Finding a good balance is an individual thing, however, I find washing my face twice a day to be helpful.

How do you take off your makeup ?

I first take a washcloth and just clean my face with the towel. After I have done that, I know that makeup still remains on my face. I will take a cotton round and splash some micellar water on then I will use the cotton round to get rid of the excess makeup that remains.

How often do you clean your makeup brushes?

Sometimes I am very good about this. Other times I am not. I know I should do it more often than I do now. I typically wash my brushes every 2-4 weeks. It really depends on my scheduled at the time. I know it is very important to clean your brushes often because bacteria does pile up easily.

How do you clean your makeup brushes?

I use a simple technique that gets my brushes clean. Soap and water. I will take a bar of soap, one that has no fragrance or scent to it and warm water. I scrub the brush and the bar of soap together while under the warm water. This natural process is very easy and works well. I saw this on youtube and ever since I have been cleaning my brushes this way.

Your favorite makeup brushes?

The original Beauty Blender, Real Techniques Powder Brush, Sigma Flat Kabuki F80.

How do you find the perfect foundation for your skin?

My number one technique for finding the perfect shade is watching youtube videos and finding pictures of people who are the same complexion as me. Youtube videos really help! If I know that a certain youtuber and myself wear similar products and similar shades of certain products then we are most likely to have the same foundation shade in another product. I am not one to go to a makeup store and get my shade tested. I normally am pretty accurate with finding my shade. Research. Research. Research.

What are your go to makeup products?

Urban Decay De-Slcik Setting Spray, Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb, Fenty Beauty Primer, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette.

What makeup products do you not use in your makeup routine?

I do not contour my face, therefore, I do not use any contour palettes. I also do not wear blush. I rarely use lip liner.

Lipstick, Lip gloss, Lip stain, Lip balm, or Lip liner?

Lipstick! My all time favorite lipstick is MAC Whirl Lipstick.

How do you pick a lip color that looks good with your skin?

I tend to stick with my go to lip products and just repurchase them whenever I run out. I like to try new lip products here and there, but for the most part I like to stick to the basics. Similar to finding the perfect foundation shade, I watch youtube videos with youtubers that are similar to my skin color and I see the lip products they wear. If I really like one, then I’ll know it has a good chance of looking good on my skin complexion.

What are your favorite makeup brands?

Fenty Beauty & Too Faced are my top two favorite makeup brand. I can tell I like a certain brand when I buy multiple products from the brand and I repurchased items over and over.

Laura Mercier Setting Powder

IMG_5950

Today I wanted to give some light to one of my favorite makeup products. I have been using this product constantly for almost two years now. It’s my all time favorite setting powder, the Laura Mercier Setting Powder. This translucent powder pairs well with the other makeup products in my routine to help add to a flawless natural face. I have purchased this setting powder 3 times. There is a reason I have bought so many times. I truly feel this is one of the best makeup products ever. Keep reading to see my overall thoughts on the Laura Mercier Setting Powder.

How I use: Once I have applied my primer and foundation, I use a beauty blender to apply the powder to my face. I let the powder stay on while I do my eyeshadow and mascara. If I am not doing any eyeshadow for the day or putting on mascara, then I will let the powder sit on my face for 5-10 mins, depending on how much extra time I have. Ideally, the longer the powder is ‘baking’ on your face, the better. Baking has many benefits for completing the process. My number one reason for baking and using the powder is to help control oil on my face. I  That essential takes me to my next point, oil control.

DSCF6350-1

Oil Control: I have very oily skin! I am not kidding! I can wear no products on my face and my face will still be oily. Even if I have some beauty products on my skin, my face will still get oily. To prevent or minimize the oil I produce, I try and incorporate all oil free products in my makeup and skincare routines. The Laura Mercier Setting Powder is an oil free product! This is what instantly drew me to the product. The loose powder also provides natural coverage and has a matte finish to it. This is not a foundation powder, but a setting powder so providing coverage is not its top priority. However, the powder does provide a sheer coverage.

Long Lasting: Besides using this product for oil control, I also use it to help my makeup last and stay on for an extended amount of time. Having oily skin, sometimes I have to wipe or pat my face throughout the day. Even though I do this, I have found that my makeup stays on my face and still looks just as good as when I originally applied it. I do not use the Laura Mercier Velour Puff that comes with the product to apply the powder. To apply the powder onto my skin, I use a regular beauty blender then to buff the powder into my skin I use the Bareminerals Handy Buki Brush.

Color/Shade: Although this powder is essentially white, since it is translucent, it blends into any skin shade perfectly. Being a woman of color, I was hesitant at first that I would look cakey after using. I can say, this powder has never made me look cakey! It really does blend evenly into the skin. The powder does come in two different shades: Translucent & Translucent Medium Deep. I have not tired the Translucent Medium Deep shade because I really like the Translucent shade. However, after I finish this bottle of the powder, I may try the Translucent Medium Deep shade.

Price: The setting powder comes in two different sizes: a mini size and a standard size. The mini size is $23 and the standard size is priced at $38. I have purchased both sizes before and feel that you get your money’s worth! I know mini size products sometimes do not feel worth it for the price, however, I used the mini size Laura Mercier setting powder every time I did my makeup and it lasted me for a couple of months. I most recently upgraded to the full size and I can tell this container will last for a long time as well. Although it is an expensive product, it is worth it to have in your makeup collection!

Please let me know if the Laura Mercier Setting Powder is one of your makeup favorites! Or if you have another setting powder you love, please let me know!!
